"Head...Shoulders...Knees and...SOCKS!"
the creative process
I know it's been awhile but I've been rather busy being creative. In addition to doing some serious work on my first quilt for Child, I've been busy designing handbags.
It all started a few weeks ago when I decided I needed a new handbag. Being that I'm a crafty kind of gal, I decided to make my own. Done this before, no problem. I started surfing the 'net and found a really cute bag with this adorable monkey fabric. So I hit equilter.com and found the fabric AND matching banana fabric. Once it arrived, Child was so taken by it and enjoyed playing with the yardage, that I asked him if he wanted a monkey blanket. Of course he said "Yes!" so off I went, designing from scratch a quilt, figuring out yardage, and ordering it all off the Ebay. Away I went cutting triangles, piecing them together, and then my best friend who is a quilter taught me how to do the quilting and binding. Child grabbed one of the triangles and said "Mommy - my monkey blankie!" I'm looking forward to finishing it (hopefully over the weekend), and will post pictures when done.
This of course still leaves me sans new handbag. So I found some more fabric on the Ebay (this time I went with the retro floral funky mod look) and I've been sketching designs. I've narrowed it down a bit, but am still refining the design. Right now I just know that it needs to be big enough to fit my umbrella. And cell phone, and Clie, and wallet, and crayons, and keys, and water bottle, and tissues, and gum, and other mommy things. But not too big.
Today another package of fabric arrived from the Ebay. Spouse's comment on all of this? "Yeah...You've been doing a lot of that lately."
A couple years ago a couple friends of mine and I bought tons of fabric and had dreams of making handbags. I still have a lot of that fabric. My problem is that if I do something too much to the point that it becomes not fun anymore then I'm going to stop doing it. Of course, I've already come up with the perfect name for my label should I decide to sell them (to remain under wraps for the time being.) We shall see. In the meantime - I quilt because I Mom.
