Pay it forward
As Spouse was checking out our purchases at the self-check station at the grocery store, I noticed $20 sitting in the hopper where you receive the bills you get as change or your cash-back. I thought about it for about 2 seconds (hmm...$20. It's just $20. That's our regular takeout. That's a bunch of slurpees. That's some Starbucks.) But I remembered the time that in that same store I made it all the way back to my car without grabbing my cash back, went back into the store to the manager, and someone had turned it in. So I grabbed the money, and was surprised that there were two bills. Forty bucks - well that now just upped the anty. But being a good citizen, I turned it in to the self-check monitors. They were so surprised and told me what a good person I was, and how honest I was, but deep down inside - $40 would have been nice.
Spouse was impressed what a good example I was. I asked him what he would have done if when he grabbed his cash back and counted it to find an extra $40, what he would have done. He said he probably would have thought it to be the store's error and kept the money. I know that I did the right thing and that I set a good example for Child. But yeah, that money would have been a nice bonus.
