My many colored days
My family and friends will all agree that I have a very colorful personality. I also love colors and colorful things. Perhaps this is why I was an art major in college, and why I always enjoyed studying color theory.
Should you ask me what my favorite color is, it would be very hard for me to answer. Excluding black and white (which technically are not really colors) I guess I would have to say yellow. But not like sunshine Crayola yellow, but a nice warm honey yellow (but not Goldenrod). This was the color of my childhood bedroom, my baby blanket, and the color of Child’s bedroom. All warm fuzzy things – it’s a comfort color.
I was thinking of various colors as I was driving home from work today – I had a most excellent day (“Outstanding” across the board on my 6 month review and that promotion is looking more and more promising!). But I was thinking that I was definitely having a “happy pink” day. This is from one of Child’s favorite board books, My Many Colored Days by Dr. Seuss and I adore it, in particular because of the amazing artwork illustrating the book. It goes through the colors and each one has a feeling or mood attached to it. Today was definitely a happy pink day.
This got me thinking of the other color phases that I’ve been through. I enjoy wearing black – it makes me happy (my mother never understood this, but I think I was happy because I felt that I looked good in it). I’ve been known to have what I call “clothing cravings.” I HAD to have a big pink watch, and I’ve been known to be obsessed to find a shirt that is a specific color.
The past year or so I had an orange phase going. It started with a great fuzzy orange fleece from Target, an orange Paul Frank wallet, our new car is orange, my new 3-in-1 fall/winter jacket is orange, and even child has a bunch of orange clothes. Soon after the boy was born I went through a pink phase. I got my big pink watch (and I got a mighty cool one that even has a Magic 8 ball answer feature!), a pink Paul Frank filofax, and I also bought a long pink pea coat. Lately I’ve moved on to green – a great green pen, a new green t-shirt, and green stripey t-shirt for the kid. I’m thinking about where I can find a cute green gingham button down shirt.
I’m sure that there is some Quizilla that will analyze me and tell me “What color am I?” but for now I’m content to be a little bit of all of them.
