The past couple days have kept me rather busy! Yesterday I was at work until 10:30pm. In the morning I was working a major annual event for my employer, helping people check in and directing them on through security. I enjoy this day because it gets me out of the office, afterwards, rather than staying for the rest of the event, a colleague and I went over to the nearest handi Starbucks and shmoozed for an hour or so before heading back to work. Then last night we had a black-tie fundraiser, and I was again asked to help out checking people in. I was grouped with a number of my colleagues to do so, and one of the people with me was my friend Kay. We were scanning the list and saw Wolf Blitzer's name on it. Kay was like "You know...every event we have, I see his name on the list, and I have YET to actually see Wolf Blitzer show up! If he walks in the door, you better send him right to me for check in!" Well as time went on...no Mr. Blitzer. Some of the check-in staff was pulled to assist with seating our 400+ guest, but I remained upstairs with a few others (which was fine with me, because I was wearing the heels from hell!) And of course, who should walk right up to me? Wolf Blitzer! He was very nice and polite, and he asked me a couple of additional questions, which I happily answered, and he went on his way. Of course Kay was very amused by this, but she did see him when he went downstairs for dinner. This was a neat moment, one to note certainly. Almost as cool as when Ozzy Osbourne walked right by me when he was visiting us last year.
Today brought a totally diferent kind of day. I took the day off to take Child to the National Zoo with his pre-school. It was another beautiful day, and we strolled around with the other mommies, daddies, and wee ones. Lots of other little kid school groups - kids all holding on to one rope, kids wearing matching bright yellow safety vests, kids on leashes (two per teacher!), kids with big name tags pinned to the back of their shirt with their name, school name, and school phone number. Everyone was very easily identified! I think Child had a good time (hard to tell at 1-1/2) but he did seem to enjoy watching the giraffes, hippos, and gorillas just as much as the other kids. After a picnic lunch, we returned home and then I took Child to the doctor for a follow up visit. I was so proud of this little kid - he didn't utter a peep when they gave him his immunization shot, and was facinated watching the Lab tech draw his blood. I told the nurse she had to be really nice to him, because we know where she lives! (just 3 houses down from us!)
Once we got back home after an exciting trip to Harris Teeter (free cookies for the kids!) Child was his usual giggly happy fun self. Naps? Who needs naps? I shall run around and play all afternoon and be a little monkey! Once we got him to bed, I finally got to watch Friends and Survivor (Damn you Boston Rob - JUST VOTE HIS ASS OFF THAT DAMN ISLAND ALREADY!) Now I'm watching the new Iron Chef America. Love that Alton Brown (met him also at his booksigning - very funny and nice guy!) but I could do without Bobby Flay. Tomorrow night Spouse and I have a date planned - so who knows who we'll run into then!
