"Head...Shoulders...Knees and...SOCKS!"
Today was just the most beautiful day. Even if I had to go to work. The weather was near-perfect. In the mid-seventies, low humidity, nary a cloud in the sky. And in August! If only it would stay this way through the start of fall...
I got to spend this gorgeous day driving up to Baltimore and then back with a colleague. Once we returned to work I hunkered down and have written the first 8 pages of my speech. Halfway there and then I need to make the power point to go along with it! Woo hoo!
My boss decided we all needed to leave work at 4:30 - and who am I to argue with that? So I went to Burlington Coat Factory to use some of my piss-me-off-we-don't-refund-your-money-but-will-only-give-you- store-credit-bucks to buy the Child a new toy that makes noise and features Elmo and Cookie Monster. Top that off with bananas and Frappacinos from the stores next door and then I'm on my way home.
I pulled into our driveway seconds after Spouse and Child. Child's face lights up and he says "Mommy!" and comes running over to the car, dragging his blankie on the ground behind him.
After dinner ("Pasta!") we head out to the playground down the block. Aside from some neighborhood kids goofing around on their bikes, falling dramatically, and screaming "OH MY LEG!!!!" multiple times, it was a pleasant walk on a lovely evening.
At the playground we ran into our neighbors and their little boy who is almost 3. Our neighbors are European, and speak their native language at home, so their boy speaks English not quite comprehensively, and with a cute little accent. He would often repeat what Child was saying, and ocassionally what we would say (such as Child's nickname). The boys played together nicely moving from one play set to the next. After a half and hour it was time to go home.
Once we put our boy to bed, it's been a bit hairy with him waking up occassionally crying for Mommy and Daddy. I think it was due to the noise eminating from my computer (and sometimes me!) as a result of listening to BUT - I highly recommend you do so next week! It was a fun way to end my wonderful day.
