"Head...Shoulders...Knees and...SOCKS!"
We took Child to get his haircut today. This wasn't his first haircut, but definitely the more traumatic of the two (for me that is). There is a store here called Cartoon Cuts that specializes in cutting kids hair. Each station has a TV/VCR and you pick out a video to watch when you check in. We had Elmo. She did a great job with the cut, and managed to keep up with him as he turned his head to look at what was going on around him, the other kids, Elmo, or myself and Spouse. I didn't start getting choked up until close to the end, and I'm watching all his beautiful curls end up in his lap, and he started losing patience and wanted up, but his tears really started when she took out the small razor to trim around the back of his neck and around his ears and sideburns. That's when I started to get a little emotional. She distracted him with an animal cookie (even offered some to us!) and finished him up while I was holding him. A tear slowly running down his cheek while he clutched an animal cookie in one hand and the back of my neck with the other.
The new cut looks sharp - he just looks so different without his adorable curls in the back. I know...I know...it is just hair, it will grow back. I just need to get used to it, just like I do whenever Spouse gets his hair cut. What can I say? I've always preferred longer hair.
